The eggs were brought down new environment an elevation 1,752 from their natural (elevation 2,200 m). incubated plants ex-situ conditions. Eggs examined eight hour intervals daily (twice day: 0900 h 1700 h) record physical changes such as colours. univoltine brood where completes 365–367 days egg hatching (Average = 16 days; SD 2), larva (Avg. 174 3), pupa (174 days, 1.53)) adults emerged 366 days. Marine Puddling in Papilio Polytes (lepidoptera: Papilionidae)

Smedly & Eisner (1995, 1996) stressed the difficulties that terrestrial herbivores, including Lepidoptera, suffer in order to fulfill their need for sodium, an essential ion plentiful in the seas, but in short supply in plants. Adult Lepidoptera drink from puddles, edges of streams, carrion, and excreta from which they obtain sodium and proteins (Beck et al. 1999). Puddling behavior is typicall...

Complete Mitochondrial Genome of Papilio protenor (Lepidoptera, Papilionidae) and Implications for Papilionidae Taxonomy

The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Papilio protenor (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae) was sequenced and annotated in this study. The mitogenome comprised a typical circular, double-stranded DNA molecule of 15,268 bp in length including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and an A+T-rich region. The gene order and mitogenome orientation...

The biology of metastasis to a sanctuary site.

Metastasis to the brain is prevalent in solid tumors and lymphomas, and is associated with shortened survival. The brain is regarded as a sanctuary site for metastatic tumor cells where they exist partially protected from drugs by the blood-tumor barrier. Model systems for brain metastasis have been developed and are now yielding mechanistic insights into the roles of angiogenesis, energy metab...
